Food is changing. The internet has created a lot of differences in the way that people eat. You can use an app to find places to eat in the city you are in based on type of food and price. If you don't like their suggestion, shake the phone and it will pick somewhere else. Not many years ago, the idea of this would have been laughed at.
Things I will be looking at for my essay include restaurant review sites, applications like the one discussed above and how you can now order your food online. Restaurant reviews have been around for a while. Not necessarily online, but in writing. But times are changing.
I think that it is really interesting the way that food is changing. The idea of ordering food online is strange to me. I usually just call and order. Why do I need to get online? And if I can get online from my phone to order, why not just call, like you're supposed to use the phone for anyway?
As far as buying groceries online and having them delivered, I definitely have to look into this more in order to form an opinion and also learn about it. Some days I wish there were drive thru grocery stores. There are drive thru restaurants, take out orders; why can't I call and say "hey I need a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk," and drive up to a window to pick it up? Is that lazy? Is that out of the question as something that is to come? Is that an American standard, that we should have all these things brought to us, rather than walking into a grocery store or a restaurant and picking stuff up ourselves? A few thoughts to ponder as I figure out my project.
As for the annotated bib, I'm getting there ok?!
So far, I like my project mainly because I got to pick what I am doing. I like having a choice rather than being assigned something because I am more likely to enjoy putting the time into the work if I like the topic. I think problems I am having right now are finding enough sources of information about my project. I want to make sure I have enough research about the topic, not just websites that offer online ordering of food, both restaurants and grocery stores, as well as delivery places I have found.
I think there is a lot of useful information in this post, however, I don't think it is in the correct format for that of an abstract. It's almost as if it is just a blog post.
ReplyDeleteI feel like you can really do something with this topic and what you have already written just need to tweek it a little. Plus add the annotated bib!
I really like the idea of ordering groceries online and having them delivered. If I were you, I would definitely want to research that further and see exactly how many people do that and find out the different details about the service. Who offers it and what are the prices? Do you have to live in a certain location? What are the rules? I'm really interested to see what you find out about this.
ReplyDeleteI really like your topic and the fact that it is so common in our culture today to use online sources for food delivery, menus, ect. Most people probably cannot remember the last time they cooked a meal in their kitchen. Very interesting. Great job thus far.
I really like your topic; it's especially relevant in a college town, like Morgantown, where there are so many delivery places.
ReplyDeleteAs for why people would use online delivery services instead of calling, it allows customers to take their time and browse through the restaurant's entire menu, adding and subtracting things until they have the correct order. It can also be faster if the person wants to pay with a credit card, since they can just type in the card info (or have their computer save it so that they don't have to type it after the first time) instead of reading it aloud to someone over the phone.
I like the idea of drive-thru grocery stores, mostly for people who either call ahead with specifics or don't care about which brands they buy.
If you're having trouble finding sources, you actually can use the delivery sites and maybe evaluate them and try to figure out what features they have that would make them appealing (or unappealing) to customers.
Good luck!
